Recently, I was asked an interesting question:
"If you would be able to dig a straight tunnel from here (San Diego) to someplace in China, and there wouldn't be any of that magma etc. that they say is on the inside of the earth, and if you were to jump down into that tunnel, would you come out the other side?"
My theory is that no, you wouldn't come out the other side, but rather get stuck in the middle, since that's where the gravitational force on the earth would be the strongest. You couln't "fall" out the other side, since gravity would be pulling you right back into the tunnel.
